IK, ragdolls and fighting dinos
Giving the player full control of the terrain meant a massive challenge for the animation systems in this game. I was part of a 2-man feature team to make sure the dinos animated realistically while the terrain deformed underneath them. We used an IK system called FABRIC to make the dinosaurs feet stick and plant on the ground. A right behemoth to wrangle.
I made a system to produce an animation stream for all the dino animations, sampling the animation curves in Maya to find the points where the feet touched the ground
We even attempted neural nets, can you believe it?
